Ottapalam Welfare Trust (OWT) is a people-centric charitable trust that spearheads dynamic health planning and programme management in and around the districts of Palakkad, Malappuram and Thrissur in Kerala. Our dedication to the improvement of public health has long been proven over the past two decades by venturing into unattended health sectors in certain communities. We initiate and support innovative health and development programmes at the grassroots with an active participation of people and healthcare workers. Addressing barriers to quality health among vulnerable and low income population and providing cost-effective, preventive, promotive and rehabilitative health services has always been our primary focus. testimonials

A volunteer plays a very significant role in providing Palliative care as he /she is the emotional link between the patient/ patient’s family and the clinic. Very often patients and their families get more comfort from the kind words and gestures of the volunteers than the actual medical care. Volunteers get to know the needs of the patient/ family through close interaction with them. Sometimes, even if such needs are beyond the scope of palliative care, we have in many cases, offered solutions after discussions at volunteers meetings or with Doctors or with well-known persons or institutions and in palliative care like Dr Rajagopal of Pallium India, TVM or IPM, Calicut. Each new patient poses new challenges to the volunteers, allowing them to rise above it and helping them gain confidence in taking care of more patients.

Starting as a skill development center, OWT has over two decades, become an organisation devoted to the community on the ground. In this journey, the Trust conducted an early cancer detection programme in Palakkad district and its peripheral areas for nine years in a row, and its principal supporter has been the Tata Trust. On the completion of this programme, we have initiated projects in the mental health space. OWT wouldn’t have been able to take up all this if not for the financial support of a lot of people and institutions both in India and abroad. We, the trustees, fervently hope that assistance will continue
in greater measure in the future to enable OWT to serve the community better.

I have been associated with the Ottapalam Eye Care hospital run by Ottapalam Welfare
Trust for the past few years and have seen it grow in acceptance. There is an appreciation of
the quality of service the Trust is extending to its patients. I am confident that the present
team can steer the organization to greater heights given their commitment and selfless
service traits. Good luck team OTP Eye Care and may you chart newer heights in service in
the days to come.

It is wonderful to hear about all the good work being done
through the Ottapalam Welfare Trust,
particularly in these difficult times.

The work that the welfare trust is doing is certainly very impressive. Most of us want to
do good or contribute to charity but do not have the drive and commitment to set
something up…….. Mental health often goes unnoticed and the need is underestimated, so
that too is a great initiative. I  will certainly contribute funds to the Trust now and on an
ongoing basis.
